Starting in the Summer 2011 we spent the following weeks preaching on:
15 weeks on Psalms
3 Weeks on Proverbs
1 Week on Song of Songs
2 Weeks on Ecclesiastes
4 Weeks on Job
While you may not have been at every sermon, please answer the following questions.

How do you use the wisdom literature in your own life?

Do you read these on a regular basis?

What value do they bring to the Bible?

I usually read a Psalm each morning. The psalms can be praise to God, and/or prayers to Him. They help us voice our concerns and heartaches as well as our love and joy to our Father. Full of inspiration, they go with me throughout the day. The Proverbs especially guide me in decisions I make every day. I don't read the other wisdom books on a regular basis - but from time to time.

I read the Psalms or should I say portions of the Psalms especially when I'm feeling down or struggling. It brings me comfort and the knowledge that I am not alone. That David also struggled and spoke openly to God about his desires and frustrations. It has helped me to know I can be honest with God about my feelings. I also like the wisdom of Proverbs and the lessons that are so true to life. They bring a sense of order and of life making sense.
I do not read them often enough. In fact, I don't read the Bible as much as I should. When I do, it's like coming back to a friend and reconnecting. The wisdom literature helps to guide us through the treacherous waters we call life. There are so many ups and downs but God is constant and so is His Word. In that we find we can trust Him fully.

I love to read Psalms and try to incorporate a few into my daily readings. I love them, because they often reflect my own struggle with the question of, "Are You really there, do You care about me, individually?" Then of course the answer is always, "Yes, You are! And Yes, You d!." I love the honesty in the Psalms, the fact that the writter did not go back and erase painful emotions or thoughts, but leaves himself open and vulnerable to the reader.
I don't always read proverbs, but when I do I wonder why it is I don't also incorporate these into my daily readings, because of there insight of hind-sight.
I also gained great insight from the study of Job. Job's struggle with the "Justice of God". His demanding to know "Why?" And God's reply, which did not answer Job's question, but simply reminded Job of who He was (His character). That reminder was enough bring Job from a heart full of turmoil, back to a place where he could rest in who he knew God to be..."Just".
